The big Y of the MAC-company:
MAC Y - How come? Try to solve the puzzle, and you will end up with YMCA. It was a pair of Scotsmen that made a provocation regarding the selection of whiskies in Denmark. They was visiting us in our local YMCA-club. We saw it as a big challenge to learn them otherwise. That is honestly the reason why!
You wonder why - MAC Y!
The MAC Y I/S-partnership is a company founded in November 1996. There are 16 owners of MAC Y I/S. All of the owners have an interest in whisky, and have joined the "whisky-business" for the pleasure of it. It could seem rather odd, but all 16 owners have their everyday job, and that is how we earn our bread-and-butter.
MAC Y I/S is a low-cost business. We are quite competitive with our prices in a Danish market where the sales of malt whisky have increased with app. 80-90% during the last 4 years. MAC Y I/S is a registrated business, and have the licence to import whisky, as the only business in the heart of Jutland. Our VAT number is: DK 19 57 33 70.
Right now we co-operate with nine Scottish whisky-suppliers. One Irish distillery, one Irish Merchant, one Canadian, two Japanese distilleries and one Kentucky-distillery is also among our suppliers. The MAC Y company is one of the few Danish companies concentrating on whisky.

We have blends from 3 to 30 years of age and malts from 3 to 38 year of ages. Primarily we have sold whisky to retail shops (as they are specialised in spirits in general), and secondary we have sold whisky at "whisky-tasting-parties". In year 2000 more than 1900 Danes went to a MAC Y whisky-tasting-event. We are doing all we can to promote whisky. And remember, we are doing it for the pleasure of it!
In 1997 we have launched the MAC Y 6-PACK with 6 different whisky miniatures. The 6-PACK is produced in a manner, so we could sell every type of whisky miniature in a standard bottle. This 6-PACK is the only 'whisky giftbox' in Denmark. On the backside of the 6-PACK we have tried to explain the difference between blended, deluxe blended, vattet malt and single malt. A lot of people in Denmark do not know the difference....
We are doing business with app.300 retail shops in Jutland, Funen and Zealand. And there are more to be added to that list in the future. We only do business with wine- and spiritshops, no supermarkets etc. Our products will never be next to washing powder.
Our strategy is to learn as much as possible of each product, its history, quality etc. Then we would teach our customers, so they are able to sell, for Danes, unknown malts in Denmark. Everywhere groups of whiskey-lovers are popping up, and they are very interested in new brands.
We are a small company - specialised in whisky products. We are slowly building up a reputation as a serious alternative to the big 'wine-houses' who also sell spirits.
We do not care for wine, we only care for whisky.
