Here is the first impression of Cú Dhub single malt black whisky.
Colour: Black (Yes that was one of the good days of our test drinkers…)
Nose: Sweetness, tobacco, burnt wood, root of liquorice (?). A cool impression tones forward.
Taste: Hot, notes of liquorice fill the mouth. A bitter sweet finish.
Finish: Good balance between sweet and a hint of hot strong coffee. A whisky with bite. The malt comes through.
Other observations: From the Whisky Fair in Kolding, Denmark at the introduction September 2002.
- Positive notes
Nose: Lovely, round, caramel, mild, light, nutty, smoky, sweet and welcoming, honey light peat and iodine.
Taste. Liquorish, caramel, warm, sweet, round, special, feminine, a light start but evolving to a good smooth taste, light smoke, toffee, like a good bitter, erotic…
Finish: Becomes bitter, caramel, spices, like candy.
- Negative notes
Nose: Caramel very offensive, no body, no aroma, medicine, tame.
Taste: Mild and too sweet, no character, very tame, good in the beginning, however, a little too sharp, liquorish, awful, too much "Cuba Caramel", synthetic.
Finish: Alcohol, none, bad, more liquorish, little too flat.
