The Black Whisky

Inspired by costumers, the fantastic Scottish Highlands, an old folklore from 'The Forest of Gaick', a distillery in the same forest and with help from the very same distillery a black whisky was born.

During our visit in Scotland in 2001 the idea of a black whisky got into our heads. .

Possesed by the surroundings of the small distillery Speyside in the area of Badenoch, we made inquiries about local tales and legends. We found one of them particularly suitable to the mystery of the area. The tale about 'The Witch of Laggan'

In July 2001 we discussed the idea a couple of times and we made a plan to get some samples on different varieties of the local malt with black caramel.

Throughout the last year the project has been a continuous process with the idea becoming more and more realistic and closer to the goal.

We wanted to make a black whisky with a bite. But at the same time a malt with a balance of sweetness and character which could give new enjoyers of whisky an interesting drink. We imagined that regular whisky drinkers would not be satisfied by drinking Cú Dhub.

With the knowledge on the history of Loch Dhu single malt from Mannochmore which quickly became a whisky, that everybody loved to hate, we know that Cú Dhub will be placed in the outskirts of the whisky area. However, if we can move just one non-whisky-drinker to become a whisky-drinker by the means of Cú Dhub, our mission is completed.

We have had a lot of ideas on the look of the whisky and we are very satisfied by the label, which has been made in co operation with the Danish designer Astrid Holmriis. We feel that the label tells the tale of "The witch of Laggan" in an excellent manner.
